Using
social media requires a strategy.
Creating a social media site is probably the easiest part of your social
media experience, but the real work comes with the effort that goes into
managing and implementing strategies for social media sites. Make your social media work for you and
create a strategy that is designed to make your company win. Here are a few of our suggestions to
consider when creating a social media strategy:
(1) The pitch: With
character restrictions, you need to be able to convey who your company is as
concisely as possible. Think about
the main ideas you want your target audience to know and stress that above
anything else.
(2) Consider your
relationship with your audience: What does your audience know about your
company? Are they brand advocates
or first time buyers? Depending on
your relationship with your audience, your strategy needs to fit your
target. Examining how your target
uses social media is also a necessary step. If you have a younger audience you may consider “video
contests” since that demographic tends to enjoy videos.
(3) Program goals:
Before creating a social media profile, in general, you should determine what
your goals are. Are you trying to
generate sales, brand awareness, or gain brand loyalty? Consider what you want to gain from
doing social media for your company.
(4) Be personal: Social
media sites are the place to show personality. Don’t be afraid to be yourself because that’s what people
want to see. They want to see a
little personality behind a company, which is especially true with bigger
companies.
(5)
Track your progress: How can you celebrate your success if you aren’t sure how
you have progressed? Before you
embark on a full-blown social media campaign, determine what metrics you are
going to track to get the full idea of how you have progressed throughout your
social media campaign.
